Brush and Floss Daily

Gum problems are not only present in adults, but they are also present in kids and teens. Aside from brushing and flossing daily, the following pointers should also be remembered:

  • Change your toothbrush every 3-4 months.
  • If you wear braces, make sure to consult with your orthodontist or dentist first. You might need to use a special type of toothbrush in order to clean your teeth. There might also be some other hygiene tools that you might need to use in order to keep healthy teeth.

Fluoride for Healthy Teeth

Fluoride is proven to strengthen enamel. This makes it hard for a tooth to decay. It is then important to get enough fluoride. Aside from the tooth paste that you are using, you should also drink water that contains fluoride. Fluoride use though in kids is different. Kids should just use a pea size amount of tooth paste. Too much fluoride can cause some white spots on the teeth.

Eat Smart

Eating the right foods is very important in every age. Healthy foods will not only keep healthy teeth, but healthy body as well. A diet that consists of whole foods can provide enough nutrients for your body. You can also lower your chance of getting gum disease by eating omega-3 fats from fish. Of course, it is also important to avoid eating very sweet foods. These include sugary drinks, sticky candies, chocolates and others.

Visit the Dentist

The majority of experts would say that it is ideal to visit the dentist every 6 months. However, this visit can be more often most especially when you have concerns such as gum disease. When you visit your dentist, he will remove the plaque build-up which cannot be removed by brushing or flossing. He will also look for possible signs of tooth decay.
